This glossary has been provided to further your understanding of some of the terms you will encounter on this website. This glossary will continue to evolve over time as this site also continues to evolve but if you encounter a term which hasn't been included or a term which requires clarification please get in touch with the studio.

Accessibility

Accessibility is used to describe how effectively people with disabilities can use web sites.

Browser, Web Browser

Software that displays web pages, such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Opera and Safari.

CSS

Cascading Style Sheets provide a method of controlling how HTML documents appear. Replacing a web site's style sheet can radically alter the way it appears. This can make it easier to rebrand a website or target different display types, such as: print, mobile phones and projectors.

HTML

HTML files are plain text files files contain instructions on how to display the text. HTML is an Internet standard maintained by the Word Wide Web Consortium.

Web Standards

When we refer to web standards, we are referring to open standards primarily used on the World Wide Web. These include HTML, JavaScript and CSS.
